MFA Candidate News
Trevor Dane Ketner was awarded an Honorable Mention in Glimmer Train's November 2013 Short Story Award for New Writers.
Carrie Lorig has poems forthcoming or published with Dusie, Sink Review, and Verse Wisconsin. A collaborative chapbook she wrote with Nick Sturm called Labor Day was published by Forklift, OH. She also wrote a response to Julia Cohen's poem, "Practice by Fire and Doubt," for the December issue of Spoke Too Soon: A Journal for the Longer.
Scott F. Parker edited Conversations with Ken Kesey, out from University Press of Mississippi May 1. His collection of "anti-memoirs," in here, won Monkey Puzzle Press's prose chapbook contest (under the pen name The Synthesis). See our interview with Parker.
Nasir Sakandar's essay, "Why Your Dating Life Needs Classical Music," was published by Minnesota Public Radio.
Emily Strasser's essay "Signal Fires on the Tibetan Plateau" was published with Guernica.
Nicky Tiso has three poems in SCUD Magazine.
Elisabeth Workman's debut poetry collection ULTRAMEGAPRAIRIELAND was published by Bloof Books. TERRORISM IS WHAT WHALE, a poetry chapbook collaboration with Michael Sikkema, is available from Grey Book Press in March. Recent prose, poems, and/or collaborations are forthcoming or published in Finery,Third Rail, Gesture, Stolen Island, and ON Contemporary Practice.
MFA Alumnae/i News
Swati Avasthi (MFA 2010) had her new YA novel, Chasing Shadows, recognized by Kirkus Reviews as one of the Best Teen Books of 2013.
Patrick Hueller (MFA 2010) had his young adult book Archenemy (2013) named to the Rainbow List, selected by the ALA. He writes under the pen name Paul Hoblin.
Molly Sutton Kiefer (MFA 2012) published the lyric essay Nestuary with Ricochet Editions.
Edward McPherson (MFA 2011) published a story in the Gettysburg Review.
Josh Ostergaard (MFA 2011) published his debut collection of essays, The Devil's Snake Curve: A Fan's Notes From Left Field, with Coffee House Press.
Claire Sanford (MFA 2012) taught a course about the sustainable food and agriculture movement for the University of Minnesota's Continuing Education LearningLife program.
Francine Marie Tolf (MFA 2006) recently published a prose chapbook with Green Fuse Poetic Arts Press of Loveland, Colorado, entitled Shadow Town: Essays on Growing Up in Joliet, Illinois.
Holly Vanderhaar (MFA 2010) is a finalist with her essay, "Surrender," for Creative Nonfiction's upcoming anthology of nonfiction Oh, Baby: True Stories About Tiny Humans.
