What We're Reading: Amit Yahav
Assistant Professor Amit Yahav joined the English faculty this spring semester, after teaching at the University of Haifa and Johns Hopkins. A scholar of 18th-century literature, she graduated from Tel-Aviv University and earned her PhD in English Literature at Johns Hopkins University. Yahav's research project is to identify an 18th-century interest in qualitative time, but her reading includes such 20th-century creations as the Gruffalo and a Sneetch or two. Students' Travel Spurs Inspiration
This year's English fundraising efforts are focusing on four important funds, one each for the undergraduate, PhD, and MFA programs, as well as the literary magazine produced by our graduate students, dislocate. The O'Rourke Travel Fellowship in Creative Writing allows MFA students the opportunity to write without borders.
Brennan & Scheil Receive CLA Honors
Two of our faculty received major awards from the College of Liberal Arts this spring: Professor Timothy Brennan was named Samuel Russell Chair in the Humanities for 2014-17, and Professor Katherine Scheil was named Scholar of the College for the same period. We asked Brennan and Scheil what they hope to accomplish.
